In the front panel of the tower chassis is one or more drive bays. These bays allow |floppy disk|, |optical disc|, |tape|, and |hard drives| to be mounted within the system. This allows the drives to remain accessible from the exterior of the chassis. Often, users will configure their systems to include both a 3 1/2" and 5 1/4" floppy disk drive and a single hard disk drive. A hard disk drive is especially preferred, as it can dramatically expand the computer's memory and speed of data acquisition.
